ii. To enhance the diversity among the students, teaching and non-teaching staff population and at the same time eliminate the perception of discrimination.
iii. To create a socially congenial atmosphere for academic interaction and for the growth of healthy interpersonal relationships among the students coming from various social backgrounds.
iv. To make efforts to sensitize the academic community regarding the problems associated with social exclusion as well as aspirations of the marginalized communities.
v. To help individuals or a group of students belonging to the disadvantaged section of society to contain the problems related to discrimination.

The technical session was handled by Adv. Thomas Joseph Thoomkuzhy, Panel Lawyer of the Meenachil Taluk Legal Services Committee. The resource person delivered an informative and engaging session on gender sensitization, explaining how gender biases and stereotypes affect individuals and society. He elaborated on the key provisions of the POSH Act, including the definition of sexual harassment, the role and functioning of Internal Complaints Committees, complaint procedures, and the responsibilities of educational institutions in ensuring a harassment-free environment. He also provided detailed insights into the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, discussing its legal implications, preventive measures, and the social consequences of child marriage. The session was enriched with real-life examples and practical explanations, which helped participants relate legal concepts to everyday situations.
An interactive discussion session followed, during which students and staff actively participated by raising questions and clarifying doubts regarding legal procedures and institutional support systems. The seminar significantly enhanced participants’ understanding of gender sensitivity, POSH Act awareness, and child protection laws, while also strengthening their confidence to report grievances and seek legal assistance when necessary. The programme reinforced the role of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell and Equal Opportunity Cell in maintaining a secure, respectful, and inclusive campus environment.
The Department of Business Administration, Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, organized a film screening titled “PATHFINDERS: Migrant’s Business Odyssey” as part of the observance of International Migrants Day on December 18. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about migrant entrepreneurship and the significance of inclusive and equitable business practices.
The event was held at St. Genesius Theater at 1:30 p.m. and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The Malayalam film “Vellom” was screened as part of the programme, portraying the real-life struggles and entrepreneurial journeys of migrant individuals. The film highlighted themes of resilience, adaptability, and perseverance, while also showcasing the valuable economic and social contributions made by migrants.
Through the screening, students gained meaningful insights into the socio-economic challenges faced by migrant entrepreneurs and the innovative strategies they adopt to overcome barriers. The programme successfully sensitized students to the realities of migration and encouraged a deeper understanding of inclusive growth and responsible business practices.

The Department of Business Administration of Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, organized an academic session titled “Equal Opportunity & Labour Management Issues” on 12th December 2025 at 11:40 AM in Room C3. The event was conducted as part of the department’s initiative to sensitise students about workplace fairness, inclusivity, and employee rights. The programme was jointly coordinated by the Equal Opportunity Cell and the Department of Business Administration, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to building responsible and ethically aware future professionals.

The Equal Opportunity Cell at Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College successfully organized an Oath Taking Ceremony as part of the Nelson Mandela International Day celebrations on July 18, 2025, at 9 AM. This event was designed to instill the values of equality, inclusiveness, and respect among students, fostering a discrimination-free environment and empowering them to uphold fairness and social justice in all aspects of life. The event aimed to promote the values of equality, inclusiveness, and social justice among students. It was a significant initiative to inspire young minds to stand against discrimination and embrace fairness in all aspects of life.
The pledge was announced by Erin Vincent, a student of S3 Integrated MSc, who served as the Student Coordinator for the event. His leadership and participation added value and enthusiasm to the occasion.

To commemorate the World Day Against Child Labour, the Equal Opportunity Cell of Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College organized an awareness programme titled “Building a Child-Friendly World” on June 12, 2025. The event aimed to create awareness about child labour and promote the importance of child rights and protection from exploitation. The programme highlighted the harsh realities faced by millions of children who are subjected to labour instead of enjoying a safe, nurturing, and educational childhood. The sessions emphasized the urgent need to eliminate child labour and uphold children’s rights as per national and international mandates such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)

The event began with a prayer song followed by a warm welcome by Ms. Minnu Teresa Biju, the Student Coordinator, who gave an introduction of the event’s purpose and objectives too. Then Ms. Sheeja K G, Account Assistant from the Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD), Kottayam, introduced the remarkable initiatives undertaken by their department. After that Adv. Shijo M. John, a distinguished Consulting Social Worker, delivered the Inaugural Address and conducted the expert-led session. He shared valuable insights on understanding mental health challenges, identifying coping strategies, and utilizing resources for overall wellness. He provided practical strategies and coping mechanisms that the students can utilize to navigate mental health challenges and promote their overall wellness.

The Equi Empower Hub of Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, organized an Essay Writing Competition on November 21, 2024, at 12:00 PM. The event was conducted in Room No. A4, located in the Academic Block, in loving memory of the college’s esteemed patron, Mar Sebastian Vayalil on his 38th Death Anniversary. This competition was part of the college’s observance of International Men’s Day, which is celebrated on November 19 every year.
The topic for the competition was “The Role of Men in Our Lives”/ “ഞങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ പങ്ക്”. The event is open to students of the college. It is language-neutral, ensuring participation irrespective of preferred language. The winners of the competition were Jewel Joseph (S1 MSc Integrated AI & ML) 1st Prize, Eileen Mary Babu (S1 MSc Integrated AI & ML) 2nd Prize and Sumimol A. (S1 BCA) 3rd Prize.
