The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Forum of Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, is an academic and cultural initiative dedicated to promoting awareness, understanding, and appreciation of India’s rich intellectual heritage and indigenous knowledge traditions. Functioning under the vision of holistic and value-based education, the Forum aims to integrate traditional wisdom with contemporary academic perspectives, thereby enriching the learning experience of students. The IKS Forum provides a platform for exploring diverse domains such as Indian philosophy, language traditions, arts, culture, science, and sustainable practices rooted in the Indian knowledge tradition. Through seminars, workshops, exhibitions, invited talks, and experiential learning activities, the Forum encourages students and faculty to engage critically and creatively with India’s knowledge systems. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and cultural engagement, the Forum seeks to revive interest in indigenous knowledge, promote ethical and value-based thinking, and nurture a deeper connection with cultural roots. The activities of the IKS Forum not only enhance academic enrichment but also contribute to the development of socially responsible and culturally aware individuals.
Paramārambha marked the formal inauguration of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Forum at Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, held at St. Ignatius Seminar Hall. The programme was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, Principal, who delivered an invited talk on integrating traditional wisdom with modern education. Coordinated by Dr. Bhagyasree B. and Ms. Sherin Joseph, the event featured an inter-departmental treasure hunt titled “Bhāṣāyātrā – Journey through Indian Languages”, encouraging active student participation and interdisciplinary engagement.
The IKS Forum organised a three-day heritage exhibition titled “Bharatiya Parampara” to showcase India’s rich knowledge traditions and cultural practices. Inaugurated by Mr. Raju Cherian, the exhibition featured valuable artefacts curated with support from Mr. Wilson Vengayil. Coordinated by Dr. Bhagyasree B., Ms. Sherin Joseph, and Mr. Jephin Jose, the programme attracted over 770 participants, creating a vibrant and reflective learning environment.
An educational IKS Heritage Visit was organised for IKS Forum members and BBA students to provide experiential learning beyond the classroom. The visit included heritage sites such as Hill Palace, Heritage Museum, Folklore Museum, and Vypin Beach, offering insights into India’s cultural preservation practices. Coordinated by Dr. Bhagyasree B. and Ms. Sherin Joseph with faculty support, the programme enhanced students’ understanding of Indian Knowledge Systems through real-life exposure.
