Entrepreneurship development in college is pivotal for today’s rapidly changing landscape. Recognizing that traditional career paths are evolving, colleges aim to equip students with entrepreneurial skills to navigate uncertainties and contribute to a dynamic global economy. By integrating entrepreneurship into the college experience, students gain practical skills, foster innovative thinking, and develop a mindset conducive to problem-solving and adaptability. Entrepreneurship Development (ED) Club, the innovative approach of the college facilitates networking, mentorship, and resource access, essential elements for budding entrepreneurs. This not only enhances their employability but also cultivates a culture of self-reliance and creativity, laying the foundation for future leaders and contributors to economic growth. Entrepreneurship Development initiatives in our college align with SDG 9. Ultimately, entrepreneurship development in college is about empowering students to shape their destinies, fostering a culture of initiative, and propelling society forward through innovative and sustainable enterprises.
“Destijil” serves as an innovative marketplace within college, specifically designed for students and staff to showcase and sell their products, predominantly focusing on handicrafts, food items, and various other offerings. The concept of Destijil not only provides students with a platform to exhibit their entrepreneurial spirit and creativity but also fosters a vibrant community-driven marketplace within the college or university setting.
To cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among students, the college organizes seminars, training programs, exhibitions, and various other events periodically. These initiatives enable students to develop essential entrepreneurial skills, explore innovative ideas, and gain practical experience in business and innovation.
“Entrepreneur Development (ED) Club” was inaugurated on 25/10/2022. The aim of the ED club is to bring out the innovation of the children and to foster the mindset of the student into the entrepreneurship activity. For that the ED club has conducted many sessions and programmes to promote entrepreneurship.
“Destijl” – the innovative ED Store within the college, specifically designed for students and staff to showcase and sell their products was inaugurated on 07th June,2021.
The 3 Day Micro Entrepreneurship Training programme was conducted by the Department of Social Work as part of YOLO Fest on January 15th 16th 17th 2020. Training for candle making, umbrella making, soap making etc were given to the participants. The products out of the training were sold among the students and the neighbouring community.
Entrepreneurial development club conducted a cake fest entitled ‘BVM cake fiesta 2k22’ on 22nd and 23rd December 2022 as a part of our Christmas celebration. The objective of this fest was to develop entrepreneurial skills in the students who have a passion for entrepreneurship.
An Art & Craft Exhibition was conducted in the college by the Department of Social Work from 15-01-2020 to 17-01-2020. The students of the college and differently abled institutions participated in the exhibition by displaying their exhibits such as flowers made from paper and sponges, bottle paintings, candle, lotions, dish washers, rosary and products out of waste materials. First prize won by Sanjoes special school, Ettumanoor with the cash prize of Rs. 10000/- and second prize won by St Theresa special school, Uzhavoor.
The Food Fest 2k22 took place on 09th November 2022. It provided all students with the chance to explore entrepreneurship through the creation of diverse food stalls featuring a wide array of culinary delights. The most innovative and highest-earning team was selected as the best entrepreneur team based on their unique food offerings and revenue generation during the event.
A wider population still considers choosing entrepreneurship as a career to be a herculean task. Consequently, there is difficulty in bringing about a drastic change in the perception towards entrepreneurship among students.
