Department of Social Work

The Department of Social work was established in the year 2005 with a Masters degree programme in Social Work. It further widened its horizon to meet increasing demand for the course by starting BSW Course in 2020 and an additional batch for MSW in 2022. Recognized as one of the best Social work department in MG University, our Master’s Degree in Social Work is offered with following specializations: Medical and Psychiatry, Community Development and Family & Child Welfare. The department is well equipped with qualified faculties who has proved their expertise in the field and is trained to mould budding youth to be socially committed professionals.

At BVM, we are following a Social work andragogy where the teaching learning process starts with Praxis or practise which includes students exposure to real life situations in form of field work. Concurrent field, Block field, Rural camp, PRA, Study Tour, Organization Visits and other Social outreach activities will come under this. After praxis comes documentation phase where trainees document what they have learned from field and this reports are regularly verified by faculties. Dissemination comes after this in which these
learned facts are communicated to a larger audience through conferences, seminars, presentations etc. The final emergent product is Knowledge. Thus, we equip our students to have an engaged-knowledge building which incorporate both theory and practicum with equal weightage.

Social work department has a registered NGO named HOPES (Holy Cross Providential Enlightenment Service) as a social outreach wing of college to engage students in Social outreach activities and to provide internship opportunities for social work students. We also have a students association named ESWA (Emerging Social Workers Association) which collaborates activities of student wing and alumni wing. Several socially relevant programs are conducted in and out of campus under the banner of ESWA.
The department provides placement support for students via NGO’s we associate with and the college conducts Job Fare periodically to assist students to get placed.
