The Minukku Art Exhibition, organized by the Film and Media Studies department of BVM Holy Cross College, showcased the artistic brilliance of the department’s esteemed faculty members, Ajith Raghavan and Sreesubha Suresh. The event celebrated creativity and academic excellence, drawing participation from students across all departments.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Baby Sebastian, Principal of BVM Holy Cross College, who delivered an inspiring speech on the significance of art in fostering critical thinking and interdisciplinary learning.
The displayed works were a blend of contemporary and traditional themes, reflecting the faculty’s expertise in both visual storytelling and media aesthetics. Each artwork provided an immersive experience, sparking meaningful discussions among students and faculty members.
The event was met with enthusiastic participation from students of various disciplines. Their active engagement highlighted the transformative impact of art as a medium of expression and dialogue. The Me-sso-fil Association program, Varu Namukku Samsaarikkaam, organized by the Department of Social Work on October 8 2024, began with a welcome speech by coordinator Jacob Sam and a motivating address by Department HOD Fr. Geemon Jose, who emphasized the importance of timely project submission. Students from different batches shared their thoughts, with some expressing interest in participating in the upcoming food fest organized by the E.D club. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the Department IQAC Coordinator Bilahari Salgunan. The event facilitated the identification and resolution of student concerns, improved transparency in grievance redressal, and provided students with the opportunity to enhance their communication skills, boosting their confidence in expressing ideas in a group setting.
The inauguration of the association began with a solemn prayer, setting a respectful and hopeful tone for the event. This was followed by a warm welcome speech by Head Of the Department, Fr. Geemon Jose highlighted the significance of the occasion. The college principal Rev.Dr. Baby Sebastian then delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the association’s role in enhancing student engagement and learning.
Film director Mr. Samjad P.S. had the honour of officially inaugurating the function. He also unveiled the new logo of the association, symbolizing its fresh beginnings and future aspirations. Rev. Fr. Scaria Malamackal, college bursar gave a heartfelt felicitation speech, expressing gratitude and encouragement for the association’s initiatives. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the association coordinator Mr Jacob Sam, appreciating the efforts of everyone involved.
An interactive question-and-answer session between the director and media students provided
valuable insights and inspiration.Students asked questions ranging from technical aspects of
filmmaking to advice on breaking into the industry. Director Samjad shared his experiences and the
nuances involved in the filmmaking process, from conceptualization to final production. The
director discussed current trends in the film industry, including the rise of digital platforms and the
increasing opportunities for independent filmmakers.
The success of the inauguration ceremony was largely due to the meticulous planning and
coordination by the organizing committee which is comprised of students, whose earlier meetings
ensured a seamless and engaging event.

S, Mr. Bilahari Salgunan, and Mr. Jacob Sam—shared their insights with the students. Student representatives from various batches also spoke, voicing their concerns and thoughts on departmental activities. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the Department IQAC Coordinator, Bilahari Salgunan.
Outcomes:
The Department of Film & Media Studies at Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College organized a two-day induction programme for first-year students specializing in Visual Communication and Animation VFX on July 4-5, 2024. The event introduced students to the department, faculty, and facilities while fostering peer interaction and motivation. Day 1 featured an ice-breaking session by faculty members Bilahari Salgunan and Jacob Sam, followed by a motivational talk by Thankam Jose and Sruthimol M S. Day 2 included a photography introduction by Fr. Geemon Jose and a session on maintaining a positive mindset by Melbin Suresh. The program successfully prepared students for their academic journey, promoting a sense of belonging and enthusiasm for their studies.
