Policy Document for SC/ST Cell

At Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College Cherpunkal, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every individual, regardless of their caste or tribe, feels respected, valued and supported. As part of this commitment, the SC/ST Cell has been established to address the specific needs and concerns of students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). This policy document outlines the objectives, functions and guidelines of the SC/ST Cell.

  1. To promote equality, social justice and inclusivity among SC/ST students within the college community.
  2. To provide support, guidance and counselling to SC/ST students to facilitate their academic and personal growth.
  3. To create awareness and sensitization programs aimed at eliminating discrimination and stereotypes against SC/ST communities.
  4. To address grievances and concerns of SC/ST students promptly and effectively.
  5. To collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement affirmative action policies and initiatives for the benefit of SC/ST students.
  6. To monitor the progress and well-being of SC/ST students and recommend measures for their holistic development.

Counselling and Support: The SC/ST Cell shall provide counselling and support services to SC/ST students to address their academic, personal and social challenges. This includes guidance on educational opportunities, career counselling and personal development.

Awareness and Sensitization: The Cell shall organize workshops, seminars and awareness campaigns to sensitize the college community about the issues faced by SC/ST students and promote inclusivity and diversity.

Grievance Redressal: SC/ST students can approach the Cell with any grievances or concerns they may have related to discrimination, harassment, or any other issues. The Cell shall ensure that such grievances are addressed promptly and in a confidential manner.

Affirmative Action: The Cell shall work in collaboration with the college administration to implement affirmative action policies and measures aimed at providing equal opportunities and support to SC/ST students.

Monitoring and Evaluation: The Cell shall monitor the academic progress, attendance and overall well-being of SC/ST students and recommend interventions as necessary to support their holistic development.

  1. The SC/ST Cell shall consist of a Coordinator and members appointed by the college administration.
  2. The Cell shall meet regularly to discuss and review the implementation of its objectives and functions.
  3. Confidentiality shall be maintained in all matters related to grievances and counselling sessions.
  4. The Cell shall collaborate with other relevant committees and cells within the college to address intersectional issues and promote inclusivity.
  5. All activities and initiatives of the SC/ST Cell shall be aligned with the principles of equity, social justice and inclusivity.
