The event was held on 6th November 2024 at 12: 30 PM in the St. Ignatius Seminar Hall (A-11). The objective of this orientation was to enable students to understand the essential stages of research methodology and apply processes involved in research, ranging from problem formulation to data analysis and interpretation. The event began with a warm welcome speech delivered by Ms. Elsa Mary Scaria, the Head of the Department of Commerce. She emphasized the importance of doing research.

The meeting was attended by 49 parents along with their children, creating an engaging environment for discussion and feedback. Principal Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian addressed the gathering, emphasizing the vital role of parental involvement in students’ educational journeys. Head of the Department (HOD) Ms. Elsa Mary Scaria reviewed the students’ overall performance, highlighting their academic achievements and addressing potential challenges. Nithin K.S. from Computer Park, Thodupuzha, delivered an informative orientation on Tally, a leading accounting software, to enhance parents’ understanding of the practical tools their children are mastering in their coursework. The event featured speeches from distinguished individuals, including Principal Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, Chief Guest K.C. Thankachan, and Head of the Commerce Department Miss Elsa Mary Scaria, who highlighted the department’s vision, relevance, and commitment to fostering critical skills. Cultural performances, such as a prayer dance by 1st-year B.Com students and solo and group performances, added vibrancy to the occasion. The program also included an award ceremony recognizing academic achievers and certificates for volunteers in a German recruitment event. Anchored by Aakansha Ann Joby and Alen Dony, the event concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a promising start for the department.

Seminar on G20 Summit 2023 held on 9th October 2023 at Theatre Hall provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the Group of Twenty (G20) and its role in the global economy. The class aimed to explore the history, objectives, and key functions of this influential international forum. The seminar was taken by Jennifer Mathew Vincent and Anarkha Benny of S5 B Com Finance and Taxation batch of 2021-2024. The programme started with a prayer song, followed by welcome speech by Issac Johny of S3 B Com Finance and Taxation. The session was wound up with an address by Dean Of studies of BVM Holy Cross College, Dr V. V Georgekutty, followed by a vote of thanks by Alen Dony of S5 BCom Finance and Taxation.
Inauguration of the commerce association ‘commercia’ was held at the BVM theatre on 23rd June, 2023 at 10.30 am. The chief guest for the ceremony was CMA C S Madhusudanan who graced the occasion with his valuable presence and gave the inaugural address followed by the switch on ceremony to declare commercia as officially inaugurated for the year 2023-24. The top scorers in the batch of 2020-2023 and 2021-2024 were awarded scholarships under different categories. Rev Dr Baby Sebastian and CMA C S Madhusudhanan gave away the scholarships to the toppers. After which, the chief guest was awarded a memento by the principal as a token of gratitude.
A seminar on investment opportunities in securities market and role of depositories in securities market was taken by CMA C S Madhusudhanan to aware the students about various opportunities available for investment in securities market. He also taught about the important terms and procedures associated with the same. It was an informative session that the students found helpful. At the end of the seminar, a feedback form was given to all students for their feedback about the session.
The seminar was followed by a cultural programme in which students of S5 BCom Finance and Taxation and S5 BCom Computer Application showcased their spectacular dance performances. Anjana of S3 MCom gave the vote of thanks. The event was concluded with the national anthem. All in all, the event was a successful one.
