The objective of this orientation was to enable students to understand the essential stages of research methodology and apply processes involved in research, ranging from problem formulation to data analysis and interpretation. The event began with a warm welcome speech delivered by Ms. Elsa Mary Scaria, the Head of the Department of Commerce. She emphasized the importance of doing research.

An orientation programme on Research Fundamentals was organized by the Department of Commerce for the final-year B. Com (Finance and Taxation) and B. Com (Computer Application) students on 23rd October 2024. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting for the second-year B.Com students at BVM College was held on October 22, 2024, at 1:30 PM in the St. Jovans Mini Theatre. Parents, faculty members, and students attended the event, which featured sessions addressing academic and professional concerns. The meeting began with a serene prayer song by Aparna Shyam, setting a peaceful tone for the event. Viswanath E.B. delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the PTA’s role in fostering collaboration between parents and the institution. Rev. An orientation programme aimed at educating third-year B.Com Finance and Taxation and Computer Application students about the Enrolled Agent (EA) certification was conducted by ASAP Kerala on October 22, 2024. The event took place in the St. Ignatius Seminar Hall and featured Ms.Anu Paul, the Programme Manager at ASAP, as the resource person.

On October 16, 2024, a Parents’ Meeting for final-year B.Com students specializing in Finance, Taxation, and Computer Applications was held at St. Genesius Theatre. The meeting was attended by 49 parents along with their children, creating an engaging environment for discussion and feedback. Principal Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian addressed the gathering, emphasizing the vital role of parental involvement in students’ educational journeys. Head of the Department (HOD) Ms. Elsa Mary Scaria reviewed the students’ overall performance, highlighting their academic achievements and addressing potential challenges. Nithin K.S. from Computer Park, Thodupuzha, delivered an informative orientation on Tally, a leading accounting software, to enhance parents’ understanding of the practical tools their children are mastering in their coursework. The meeting fostered a collaborative atmosphere between parents and faculty, reinforcing the shared goal of supporting students as they approach graduation. Class teachers provided personalized evaluations of academic performance through one-on-one interactions, offering valuable insights into each student’s progress and areas for improvement. On the 14th of October 2024, the Department of Commerce at BVM Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, organized a special tribute event to honor the legendary industrialist and philanthropist, Mr. Ratan Tata. The event was held at the St. Genenius Theatre, and it brought together students, faculty members, and guests to celebrate the life and contributions of Mr. Tata, whose vision, leadership, and philanthropic efforts have had a lasting impact on India and the world.

Resource persons delivered orientation sessions on four courses: Data Visualization Using Tableau by Mr. Joby Mathew, Certificate Course in GST Filing by Mrs. Anil Aby, Mastering Advanced Excel by Ms. Sheejamol Jacob, and Digital Marketing Strategies, Tools & Techniques by Dr. Binoy Vincent. Each session lasted five minutes. They highlighted the objectives and expected outcomes of the add-on courses, emphasizing their role in improving employability, providing a competitive edge in the job market, and explaining how the courses would be practical, enabling students to work on real-world tasks that can assist in various fields.

The event, coordinated by Mr. Joby Mathew and student coordinator Anton Joji, aimed to introduce students to the financial services sector and guide them in securing relevant internships. Mr. Joby Mathew welcomed the students and introduced the guest speakers, Mr. Aswin A S and Mariam Khadhar from Hedge Securities, who shared their industry expertise. The event took place on September 24, 2024, at 11:40 AM in the St. Genesius Theatre (G-8). The program aimed to provide students with insights into career opportunities available through pursuing certifications in ACCA, CMA India, and CMA USA. The event began with a warm welcome speech delivered by Mr. Roshan Roji, the Student Coordinator, followed by an engaging session conducted by the resource persons. The session focused on the significance of these certifications, their global recognition, and the potential career paths they unlock. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Binoy Vincent and an interactive Q&A session, where students’ queries were addressed comprehensively.

The inauguration of “Commercia,” the Commerce Department at BVM College, was held on July 29, 2024, at the Academic Theatre, showcasing a blend of academic and cultural excellence. The event featured speeches from distinguished individuals, including Principal Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, Chief Guest K.C. Thankachan, and Head of the Commerce Department Miss Elsa Mary Scaria, who highlighted the department’s vision, relevance, and commitment to fostering critical skills. Cultural performances, such as a prayer dance by 1st-year B.Com students and solo and group performances, added vibrancy to the occasion. The program also included an award ceremony recognizing academic achievers and certificates for volunteers in a German recruitment event. Anchored by Aakansha Ann Joby and Alen Dony, the event concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a promising start for the department.

Seminar on G20 Summit 2023 held on 9th October 2023 at Theatre Hall provided students with a comprehensive understanding of the Group of Twenty (G20) and its role in the global economy. The class aimed to explore the history, objectives, and key functions of this influential international forum. The seminar was taken by Jennifer Mathew Vincent and Anarkha Benny of S5 B Com Finance and Taxation batch of 2021-2024. The programme started with a prayer song, followed by welcome speech by Issac Johny of S3 B Com Finance and Taxation. The session was wound up with an address by Dean Of studies of BVM Holy Cross College, Dr V. V Georgekutty, followed by a vote of thanks by Alen Dony of S5 BCom Finance and Taxation.

Inauguration of the commerce association ‘commercia’ was held at the BVM theatre on 23^rd June, 2023 at 10.30 am. The chief guest for the ceremony was CMA C S Madhusudanan who graced the occasion with his valuable presence and gave the inaugural address followed by the switch on ceremony to declare commercia as officially inaugurated for the year 2023-24. The top scorers in the batch of 2020-2023 and 2021-2024 were awarded scholarships under different categories. Rev Dr Baby Sebastian and CMA C S Madhusudhanan gave away the scholarships to the toppers. After which, the chief guest was awarded a memento by the principal as a token of gratitude.

A seminar on investment opportunities in securities market and role of depositories in securities market was taken by CMA C S Madhusudhanan to aware the students about various opportunities available for investment in securities market. He also taught about the important terms and procedures associated with the same. It was an informative session that the students found helpful. At the end of the seminar, a feedback form was given to all students for their feedback about the session.

The seminar was followed by a cultural programme in which students of S5 BCom Finance and Taxation and S5 BCom Computer Application showcased their spectacular dance performances. Anjana of S3 MCom gave the vote of thanks. The event was concluded with the national anthem. All in all, the event was a successful one.
