The college celebrated Onam, the festival of harmony, prosperity, and cultural identity of Kerala, with great enthusiasm from 23rd August to 27th August 2025. The entire campus embraced the festive spirit as students, faculty, and staff came together to organize a memorable week filled with traditional art forms, competitions, and cultural expressions.
One of the major attractions of the celebration was the Vadam Vali (Tug of War) competition. Teams representing various departments showcased great strength, coordination, and team spirit. Students gathered in large numbers to cheer for their teams, adding excitement and energy to the event. The competition was conducted in multiple rounds under the supervision of faculty members to ensure fairness and safety. The finals were highly thrilling, and the spirited participation made the event one of the highlights of the celebration.
Another culturally rich event conducted during the week was the Thiruvathira competition. Participants performed the traditional Kerala dance with remarkable grace and elegance. Dressed in kasavu saris and adorned with jasmine flowers, the Thiruvathira teams captivated the audience with their rhythmic steps and synchronized circular formations. The judges appreciated the performers for their dedication in maintaining the authenticity and aesthetic beauty of this classical dance form.
The Nadan Pattu (folk song) competition also witnessed enthusiastic participation. The melodious renditions and powerful voices of the participants resonated deeply with the audience, showcasing the rich musical heritage of the state.
The final day of the celebration, 27th August, marked the grand culmination of the week-long festivities. A vibrant and unexpected mega flash mob was performed by students in the central courtyard. The choreography, energy, and surprise element created huge excitement, drawing the attention of the entire campus. This was followed by an electrifying Chenda Melam, which served as the perfect finale to the celebration. The traditional percussion ensemble filled the campus with powerful rhythmic beats, creating a festive ambiance that brought everyone together in collective celebration.
The Onam celebrations held from 23rd to 27th August were a resounding success, reflecting the unity, creativity, and cultural pride of the students. The week-long programme provided opportunities for talent showcasing, teamwork, and active participation. The dedicated efforts of the cultural committee, faculty coordinators, and student volunteers ensured the smooth conduct of all events. The celebration concluded on a vibrant note with the Chenda Melam, leaving lasting memories of joy, togetherness, and cultural enrichment for the entire college community.
The Cultural Cell of the College organized the Freshers’ Day programme Arambhikalama on 14th August 2025 in the College Auditorium. The event aimed at welcoming the first-year students and giving them an opportunity to express their talents and interact with the larger college community. The programme witnessed the presence of faculty members, senior students, and freshers, making it a lively and memorable occasion.
The formal function began at 11:30 a.m. with the Welcome Address delivered by Ms. Nisha Mariya George, Cultural Cell Coordinator, who extended warm greetings to all. This was followed by the Presidential Address by Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, who highlighted the importance of Freshers’ Day in fostering confidence and togetherness among students.
The programme was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Ms. Nisha Joshy, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Pala, who delivered an inspiring address encouraging students to work hard, stay disciplined, and grow as responsible individuals. The gathering was then felicitated by Fr. Martin Kallarackal, Bursar, who appreciated the initiative of the Cultural Cell and motivated students to make use of the opportunities provided by the institution. The formal session concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Vishnu, Ex-Chairman, who acknowledged the contributions of everyone involved.
Following the formal session, the stage came alive with seven cultural programmes performed by the first-year students of various departments. These included dances, songs, and skits that reflected the creativity and enthusiasm of the freshers. The performances were met with great applause and added to the vibrancy of the day.
The event, conducted for the entire college, provided a platform for new students to showcase their abilities and integrate with the campus culture. The programme successfully concluded by 1:30 p.m., leaving a spirit of joy, unity, and celebration among the college community.
The Cultural Cell of BVM Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, in association with the Department of Social work, organized a “Host to Fame – Anchor Hunt” at the Yoga Hall – H1 on 11th August 2025. The event began at 10:00 AM with registration and assembly, followed by a briefing on guidelines and judging criteria. The program was designed to form a dedicated team of official student anchors for the college, while fostering creativity, adaptability, and leadership among participants. A total of 35 students passionately took part, ready to showcase their talent and stage presence.
The first round allowed each participant two minutes to showcase their voice clarity, confidence, spontaneity, and stage presence. In the first, contestants were given a common task — delivering an engaging opening for an International Women’s Day celebration — within two minutes. This tested their ability to connect with an audience right from the start.
The Cultural Cell of BVM Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal, in association with the Department of Film and Media Studies, organized a casting call titled “Drama Kings & Queens” on 17th July 2025. The event was designed to discover and nurture in-house talent among students in the areas of acting, direction, and script-writing. With a growing interest in media and performing arts, the initiative aimed to provide a platform for students to explore their creative abilities while contributing to upcoming film and cultural projects of the college.
The casting call was held from 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 47 students, the majority of whom were first-semester students from diverse academic streams. Participants were invited to perform short audition pieces, showcasing their acting skills, dialogue delivery, and emotional expression. In addition to selecting actors, the event also encouraged students with an interest in direction and scriptwriting to come forward, promoting a holistic and inclusive creative process. The initiative further aimed to identify and prepare promising students for participation in the upcoming university Kalolsavam, providing them with early exposure and training in performance and production.
To ensure proper communication, coordination, and effective follow-up, a dedicated WhatsApp group was created with all participants and coordinators. This platform facilitates updates, rehearsal schedules, creative brainstorming, and continuous engagement, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose among the budding artists.
Overall, “Drama Kings & Queens” was a vibrant and successful initiative that brought together budding talents and offered them a meaningful platform for expression and growth. Coordinated by Ms. Nisha Mariya George (Coordinator, Cultural Cell) and Fr. Geemon Jose (HoD, Department of Film and Media Studies) and Mr.Jacob Sam (Department of Film and Media Studies), the event laid a strong foundation for fostering creativity and collaboration within the student community.

The Onam celebration Harsham 2024 at Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College, held from 11th to 13th September 2024, was a vibrant showcase of Kerala’s cultural heritage, organized by the Arts Club. Various group-wise competitions, including Tableau, Thiruvathira, Onappattu, and Pookalam, brought the campus to life with creativity, tradition, and teamwork.
The Fresher’s Day celebration at Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College, held on 9th August 2024, was organized by the Arts Club to warmly welcome first-year students and provide a platform for showcasing their talents. The event began with an inaugural ceremony led by the Principal, Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, followed by vibrant performances by the students. Concluding with a vote of thanks, the event successfully created a sense of community and excitement for the new batch as they embarked on their college journey.
To celebrate World Nature Conservation Day, the Arts Club organized a creative writing event focused on
raising awareness about environmental preservation. The event featured two main components: an essay
competition and a short story writing contest, both designed to engage participants in reflecting on and
promoting conservation efforts. The Arts Club’s observance of World Nature Conservation Day successfully combined creativity with environmental advocacy. The event fostered a deeper appreciation
for nature among participants and highlighted the crucial role of art in promoting conservation. The essays and stories produced serve as a testament to the power of creative expression in inspiring positive environmental action.

The Christmas celebration of the college was conducted on 22 December 2023 at the Open Auditorium with immense student participation. Christmas crib making and Carole song competitions were organized by the college union. The event started with Christmas procession and various cultural events.
Arts Club inauguration was held on 21 December 2023 at Open Auditorium. The inauguration was done by the famous South Indian Actor Harikrishnan. The event started at 10 . 30 am and commenced at 12. 40 pm. Rev. Dr Baby Sebastian Thonikuzhi gave the Presidential address followed by the felicitation of Dr V. V. Georgekutty (Dean of Studies ) and Mr. Jephin Jose ( IQAC Coordinator ). College Chairman Mr. Don Baby gave the vote of thanks. The official logo of the Arts Club and Union for the academic year 2023 – 2024 were also released. Whole college participated in the event.
The Onam celebration-AARAVAM 2K23 was conducted on 24/08/2023 and 25 August 2023 at college Open Auditorium. The event was organized by the Arts Club of this college in association with the college union. The event started with logo release , thug of war and flash mob. The Arts Club organized department wise competitions for the students. Pookalam competition, thug of war competition, Tanima ethnic fashion show were conducted for the students. The winners were honoured by cash prizes. All the events were managed by the auspicious presence of our principal Rev Dr Baby Sebastian and other esteemed faculty members. The Freshers Day was conducted on 4/08/2023 at college Open Auditorium. The event was organized by the Arts Club of this college in association with college union. Fresher’s day was organized for the first year students of this institution to show their talents in co-curricular activities. Each department were given thirty minutes to perform their talents. The event was inaugurated by Dr Baby Thomas, Vice Principal of Civil Service Institute , Pala. The chief guest shared his life experiences and mentioned the importance of keeping a dream and how to become successful regardless of our situations. Our principal, Rev Dr Baby Sebastian gave the presidential address. Dr V V Georgekutty ( Dean of Studies), Mr Jephin Jose (IQAC coordinator), and Rev Fr Roy Malamackal (Bursar) gave the felicitations.
The students of this college under the leadership of Mr Jithin Vakkachen ( Faculty- Film and Media Studies) performed a flash mob to commemorate the 28 glorious years of this prestigious institution. The four departments performed various cultural events. All students participated in the event.
