Sports & Health Club

The Sports and Health Club of Bishop Vayalil Memorial Holy Cross College brings together students who are interested in maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. The club focuses on promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, emotional balance, and social health among students and staff. It encourages the college community to adopt healthy habits and develop a positive attitude towards health, sports, and overall well-being.

The club organizes various programmes and activities such as aerobic workouts, sports training, fitness awareness sessions, and recreational sports events. These activities help students improve their physical fitness while also reducing stress and promoting mental wellness. Through participation in sports and health-related initiatives, students learn the importance of discipline, teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship.

Recognizing the importance of sports and fitness in students’ development, the club provides opportunities for students to participate in inter-college and intra-college sports activities. These experiences help students develop important life skills such as leadership, time management, confidence, perseverance, and collaboration with people from different backgrounds.

February 21 -Sports Day Football Tournament – BVM Holy Cross College

As part of the Sports Day celebrations, a Football Tournament was organized by Bishop Vayalil
Memorial Holy Cross College, Cherpunkal on 21 February 2026 at Club 07 Football Turf. The event
created an exciting sporting atmosphere as football enthusiasts gathered to witness and participate
in the matches.
The tournament was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, who encouraged the players and
highlighted the importance of sports in developing teamwork, discipline, and leadership among
students. The event was organized under the guidance of Health and Sports Club Coordinator, Mr.
Alex Jimmy, who ensured the smooth conduct of the tournament.
Adding pride and inspiration to the occasion, former college football team captain Mr. Aravind
attended the event as the Chief Guest, motivating the players with his presence and encouraging
them to continue the legacy of football at the college.
The tournament showcased great enthusiasm, passion, and sportsmanship among the participants,
making the pitch come alive with energy and competitive spirit. The event successfully promoted the
values of teamwork, dedication, and the vibrant football culture of the college.

February 1 -MG University Karate Championship

The MG University Karate Championship was held on 01 February 2026 at B.K. College, Amalagiri.
The championship brought together skilled karate practitioners from various colleges under MG
University, providing a platform to demonstrate their strength, discipline, and martial arts skills.
BVM Holy Cross College was represented by three students who actively participated in the
championship. The participants from the college were Sebastian John, Ashbin Thomas, and Ali
Hussain.
The students were accompanied and guided by Mr. Alex Jimmy, Coordinator of the College Health
and Sports Club, who supported and encouraged the participants throughout the event.
Participation in this intercollegiate championship provided valuable exposure to the students and
helped in promoting martial arts, discipline, and the spirit of sportsmanship among the participants

January 22 to February 6 – Sports Day Badminton Tournaments – BVM Holy Cross College

As part of the Sports Day celebrations of BVM Holy Cross College, a Badminton Tournament for
staff and students was organized from 22 January 2026 to 06 February 2026 at the BVM Holy Cross
College Indoor Badminton Court.
The tournament included several exciting events such as Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s
Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Both staff members and students actively
participated in the competitions, making the tournament highly engaging and competitive.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Alex Jimmy, Coordinator of the College Health and Sports Club,
who supervised the organization and smooth conduct of the tournament. The student coordinators
for the event were Jones Binu John and Abishek Aneesh, who assisted in managing the matches and
supporting the participants.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation and strong sporting spirit from both staff and
students, contributing to the overall success of the Sports Day celebrations and promoting

December 30 – Badminton Tournament for the Staff of Corporate Educational Agency, Eparchy of Palai

A Badminton Tournament for the staff members of the Corporate Educational Agency, Eparchy of
Palai was conducted on 30 December 2025 at the BVM Holy Cross College Indoor Badminton Court.
The Corporate Educational Agency is the apex body that manages the Government Aided
educational institutions owned by the Eparchy of Palai.
The tournament witnessed active participation from the staff of various institutions under the
agency, with more than 20 teams competing in the event. The matches were played with great
enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The program was coordinated by Fr. George Pullukalayil, Corporate Secretary, who organized and
supervised the event. Technical assistance for the tournament was provided by Mr. Alex Jimmy,
Coordinator of the College Health and Sports Club, ensuring the smooth conduct of the matches
and arrangements.
The event created a lively sporting atmosphere and provided an excellent opportunity for staff
members to engage in healthy competition and strengthen camaraderie among the institutions
under the Corporate Educational Agency.

November 28 – Badminton Tournament for Girls – Holy Cross Higher Secondary School

A Badminton Tournament for Girl Students of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School was conducted
on 28 November 2025 at the BVM Holy Cross College Indoor Badminton Court. The tournament
aimed to promote sports participation, encourage young athletes, and strengthen the spirit of
healthy competition among school students.
The program was coordinated by Rev. Father Abraham Thakadiyel, who took the initiative in
organizing the event and encouraging the students to actively participate in sports activities.
Technical assistance for the tournament was provided by Mr. Alex Jimmy, Coordinator of the
College Health and Sports Club, who ensured the smooth conduct of the matches and provided the
necessary support for the successful completion of the event.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, and it served as a valuable

September 22 – MG University South Zone Shuttle Badminton Tournament

The MG University South Zone Shuttle Badminton Tournament was held on 22 September 2025 at
Pavanathma College, Murickassery. The tournament brought together talented badminton players
from various colleges in the south zone of MG University, providing a competitive platform to
showcase their sporting skills and teamwork.
BVM Holy Cross College was represented by four students who participated in the tournament with
great enthusiasm and determination. The students who represented the college were Jones Binu
John, Abishek Aneesh, Neil Sanjeev George, and Sijo Jose.
The team was accompanied by Mr. Alex Jimmy, Coordinator of the College Health and Sports Club,
who guided and supported the students throughout the tournament.

September 18 – MG University Intercollegiate Yoga Championship

The MG University Intercollegiate Yoga Championship was held on 18 September 2025 at SAS
SNDP Yogam College, Konni. The championship brought together talented yoga practitioners from
various colleges under MG University to demonstrate their skills, flexibility, and dedication to the
discipline of yoga.
BVM Holy Cross College was proudly represented by five girl students who actively participated in
the championship and showcased their yoga talents with great enthusiasm and commitment. The
students who represented the college were Sayamol Sabu, Sereen Maria Cyriac, Ann Thara
Augustine, Alivia Sosa Eappen, and Uthra Sankary.
The team was accompanied and guided by Mr. Alex Jimmy, Coordinator of the College Health and
Sports Club, who provided support and encouragement to the students throughout the event.
Participation in this intercollegiate championship provided the students with valuable exposure and
experience, while also promoting the importance of yoga for physical fitness, mental well-being, and
overall holistic development.

August 12 and 13 – BVM Badminton Home Tournament

The BVM Badminton Home Tournament was successfully conducted on 12th and 13th August 2025
at the BVM Holy Cross College Indoor Badminton Court. The tournament was organized to
encourage sports participation and promote a healthy competitive spirit among students.
The program was generously sponsored by Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, Principal of BVM Holy Cross
College. The event was coordinated by Mr. Alex Jimmy, Coordinator of the College Health and
Sports Club, who oversaw the organization and smooth conduct of the tournament.
A total of sixteen teams participated in this Home Doubles Badminton Tournament, making the
event highly competitive and exciting. The matches were played with great enthusiasm, teamwork,
and sportsmanship by all the participating teams.
The tournament provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their badminton skills and
foster camaraderie among participants. The event concluded successfully, leaving memorable
experiences for players and spectators alike.

June 25 – 7th Rev. Father Thomas Naganoolil Memorial Badminton Tournament

The 7th Rev. Father Thomas Naganoolil Memorial Badminton Tournament was conducted on 25
June 2025 at the BVM Holy Cross College Indoor Badminton Court. The event was organized to
promote sportsmanship and encourage active participation in badminton among students and staff.
The tournament was generously sponsored by Rev. Dr. George Ambazhathungal, Rev. Father Jose
Nellikatheruvil, Rev. Father Martin Kallarackal, and Rev. Father Somy Kuttiyaniyil. The program
was coordinated by Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian Thonikuzhi and Rev. Father Abraham Thakadiyel.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by the College Manager, Rev. Father Mathew Thekkell,
who addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of sports in building discipline,
teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle.
Technical assistance for the event was provided by the College Health and Sports Club, under the

March 20 – ANNUAL SPORTS WEEK 2025 – PRIZE CEREMONY

The Annual Sports Week 2025 Prize Distribution Ceremony of BVM Holy Cross College was held on 20 March 2025 at Mar Sleeva Forane Church Parish Hall. The event was organized by the Sports & Health Club as the concluding celebration of the week-long sports activities.

The ceremony recognized the achievements of students who participated in various sports events conducted during the Annual Sports Week. More than 250 students actively took part in the sports competitions, showcasing their talent, teamwork, and commitment to physical fitness.

The program was graced by distinguished guests including Rev. Father Martin Kallarackal, College Bursar, Fr. Mathew Thekkel, Manager, and Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, Principal, who addressed the gathering and congratulated the winners. Trophies, medals, and certificates were distributed to the winners and participants.

The ceremony was smoothly coordinated with the support of student volunteers and the Sports Club team. Miss Kripa Vasudevan, Student Coordinator of the Sports Club, served as the announcer for the event.

Overall, the Prize Ceremony successfully concluded the Annual Sports Week 2025, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and student achievement.

March 3 – DAY 5 (AFTERNOON) – 5KM MINI MARATHON (Sports Week 2025)

The 5KM Mini Marathon was conducted on 3 March 2025 at the ground of BVM Holy Cross College as part of Sports Week 2025, organized by the Sports & Health Club.

The event began at 3:00 PM, covering a distance of 5 kilometres. A total of 5 students participated in the marathon, demonstrating determination, endurance, and sportsmanship.

After the completion of the race, the winners were announced. Group 4 secured the First Prize, Group 1 won the Second Prize, and Group 4 also achieved the Third Prize.

Overall, the mini marathon successfully promoted physical fitness, endurance, and the spirit of healthy competition, adding energy and excitement to the Sports Week celebrations.

March 3 – DAY 5 (FORENOON) – VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT (Sports Week 2025)

The Inter-Group Volleyball Championship was conducted on 3 March 2025 at the Volleyball Ground of BVM Holy Cross College as part of Sports Week 2025, organized by the Sports & Health Club.

The event began at 10:00 AM and saw enthusiastic participation from 42 students, representing four teams: Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, and Group 4. Six student coordinators assisted in organizing and managing the matches.

The matches were played with great energy, teamwork, and sportsmanship. After competitive games, Group 3 secured the First Prize, while Group 4 achieved the Second Prize.

Overall, the volleyball tournament promoted team spirit, physical fitness, and healthy competition, making it an exciting part of the Sports Week celebrations.

February 28 – DAY 4 – TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT (Sports Week 2025)

The Inter-Group Table Tennis Competition was conducted on 28 February 2025 at the Indoor Games Hall of BVM Holy Cross College as part of Sports Week 2025, organized by the Sports & Health Club.

The event began at 11:00 AM and was conducted in an individual knockout format. A total of 5 students participated in the competition, with 1 student coordinator assisting in the organization of the event.

The matches were played with enthusiasm and competitive spirit. At the end of the competition, Group 4 secured the First Prize, while Group 4 also achieved the Runner-Up position.

Overall, the table tennis tournament provided an opportunity for students to showcase their skill, focus, and sportsmanship, contributing positively to the Sports Week activities

February 27 – DAY 3 – BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT (Sports Week 2025)

The Inter-Group Basketball Tournament was conducted on 27 February 2025 at the Basketball Court of BVM Holy Cross College as part of Sports Week 2025, organized by the Sports & Health Club.

The tournament began at 12:00 Noon and was played in a knockout format. A total of 27 students participated in the event, supported by 3 student coordinators who ensured the smooth conduct of the matches.

The games were played with great enthusiasm, teamwork, and competitive spirit. After the matches, Group 4 secured the First Prize, while Group 3 achieved the Second Prize.

Overall, the basketball tournament successfully encouraged sportsmanship, teamwork, and active student participation, contributing to the vibrant celebration of Sports Week.

February 25 – DAY 2 – FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT (Sports Week 2025)

The Inter-Group Football Tournament was conducted on 25 February 2025 at the Football Ground of BVM Holy Cross College as part of Sports Week 2025, organized by the Sports & Health Club.

The tournament began at 3:00 PM and followed a knockout format. A total of 102 students participated in the event, representing five teams: Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, Group 4(A), and Group 4(B). Fourteen student coordinators actively assisted in organizing and managing the matches smoothly.

The matches were played with great enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship. After a series of competitive games, Group 4(A) secured the First Prize, while Group 4(B) won the Second Prize.

Overall, the football tournament was a successful event that promoted team spirit, physical fitness, and healthy competition among the students during Sports Week.

February 24 – DAY 1 – CRICKET TOURNAMENT (Sports Week 2025)

The Inter-Group Cricket Tournament was conducted on 24 February 2025 at the ground of BVM Holy Cross College as part of Sports Week 2025, organized by the Sports & Health Club. The event began at 10:30 AM and was held in a knockout format.

A total of 61 students participated in the tournament, supported by 15 student coordinators who ensured the smooth conduct of the matches. Three matches were played during the day with great enthusiasm and team spirit.

After competitive games, Group 2 emerged as the winners of the tournament. The event successfully promoted sportsmanship, teamwork, and active participation, marking an energetic start to the Sports Week celebrations.

February 20,21 – CONCLAVE CHAMPIONS SEVENS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2025

The Conclave Champions Sevens Football Tournament 2025 was held on 20th and 21st February 2025 at College of Engineering Kidangoor. The tournament was associated with the Sports & Health Club and conducted as a full-day football event.

Our college team participated in the tournament with 14 students, under the guidance of Team Coordinator and Coach Alex Jimmy. The players demonstrated enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship while competing against other participating teams.

Although the team put in a strong effort during the match, they unfortunately faced a loss in the tournament. Despite the result, the event provided valuable competitive experience and exposure for the players.

Overall, the tournament served as a good opportunity for students to develop team coordination, match experience, and sportsmanship through participation in competitive football.

February 13, 17, and 21“Champions Within: Culmination of Strength and Spirit”

The 8th and final phase of the training program, titled “Champions Within: Culmination of Strength and Spirit,” was conducted on 13, 17, and 21 February 2025 at the Indoor Volleyball Court of BVM Holy Cross College. The program was organized by the Sports & Health Club and held as afternoon training sessions.

The sessions were guided by Trainer Alex Jimmy, with the participation of 51 students. The training focused on strengthening physical endurance, confidence, teamwork, and leadership qualities, bringing together the skills and experiences gained during the previous training phases.

Overall, this final phase successfully concluded the training series by encouraging students to develop strength, determination, and a strong sporting spirit, motivating them to continue their journey in sports and personal growth.

February 5 to 7 – “Synergy Sessions: Building Trust Through Team Dynamics”

The 7th phase of the training program, titled “Synergy Sessions: Building Trust Through Team Dynamics,” was conducted from 05–07 February 2025 at the Indoor Volleyball Court of BVM Holy Cross College. The program was organized by the Sports & Health Club and held as afternoon training sessions over three days.

The sessions were led by Trainer Alex Jimmy, with the participation of 51 students. The training focused on improving team coordination, communication, leadership skills, and trust among participants through various group activities and interactive exercises.

Overall, the training program successfully strengthened team dynamics, cooperation, and mutual understanding among students, contributing positively to their personal development and teamwork abilities.

January 27 – “Endurance Expedition: Testing Limits, Building Grit”

The 6th phase of the training program, titled “Endurance Expedition: Testing Limits, Building Grit,” was conducted from 27 January 2025 to 01 February 2025 at the Indoor Volleyball Court of BVM Holy Cross College. The program was organized by the Sports & Health Club and held as daily afternoon training sessions.

The sessions were guided by Trainer Alex Jimmy, with the participation of 51 students. The training focused on improving physical endurance, stamina, determination, and resilience through a series of structured fitness activities and team exercises.

Overall, the program successfully encouraged students to push their limits, build perseverance, and develop a strong sense of discipline, contributing to their physical fitness and mental strength.

December 6 – “Tactical Transformation: Thinking Fast, Moving Smart”

The 5th phase of the training program, titled “Tactical Transformation: Thinking Fast, Moving Smart,” was conducted on 06 December 2024 at the Indoor Volleyball Court of BVM Holy Cross College. The session was organized by the Sports & Health Club and held during the afternoon session.

The training was led by Trainer Alex Jimmy, with the participation of 51 students. The session focused on developing quick decision-making, tactical thinking, agility, and smart movement strategies through various physical and strategic activities.

Overall, the training program helped students enhance their strategic awareness, coordination, and teamwork, enabling them to think quickly and respond effectively during sports activities.

December 3 – “Balance Within: Strengthening Coordination and Calm”

The training session titled “Balance Within: Strengthening Coordination and Calm” was conducted on 03 December 2024 at the Basketball Court of BVM Holy Cross College. The program was organized by the Sports & Health Club and held during the afternoon session.

December 2 – MG UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

The MG University Athletic Championship 2024 organized by Mahatma Gandhi University was held on 2nd December 2024 at Alphonsa College. The event was associated with the Sports & Health Club and was conducted as a full-day championship.

The championship was organized by MG University in collaboration with Alphonsa College, Pala, and it witnessed the participation of students from various affiliated colleges under the university. The event included different track and field competitions that highlighted the athletic ability, endurance, and sportsmanship of the participants.

From our college, two students participated in the championship and represented the institution with enthusiasm and determination. Although the participants did not secure any prizes, the event provided valuable exposure and competitive experience at the university level.

Overall, the MG University Athletic Championship 2024 served as an excellent platform for students to demonstrate their athletic talents and encouraged greater participation in sports and physical activities under the initiative of the Sports & Health Club.

November 26-28 “Triad of Trials: Resilience Through Unity and Competition”

The training program titled “Triad of Trials: Resilience Through Unity and Competition” was conducted from 26th to 28th November 2024 at the Basketball Court of BVM Holy Cross College. The program was organized by the Sports & Health Club and held as afternoon training sessions.

The sessions were led by Trainer Alex Jimmy, with the participation of 51 students. The training included various physical challenges and team activities designed to build resilience, cooperation, competitive spirit, and unity among participants.

Overall, the program successfully motivated students to develop strength, teamwork, and perseverance, helping them grow both physically and mentally through sports and collaborative activities

November 24 – MG UNIVERSITY KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

The Karate Championship organized by Mahatma Gandhi University was conducted on 24th November 2024 at MG University, Kottayam. The championship was organized in association with the Sports & Health Club and was held as a full-day event.

The event witnessed the participation of students from various affiliated colleges under the university. The championship provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their martial arts skills, discipline, and sportsmanship through different karate competitions.

The team from our college participated in the event under the guidance of Team Coordinator and Coach Alex Jimmy. The participants actively engaged in the competition and gained valuable exposure at the university level.

The championship was conducted smoothly with proper arrangements and coordination. It also helped promote physical fitness, self-discipline, and confidence among students.

The training session titled “Mind Over Muscle: Strategic Games for Cognitive Fitness” was conducted on 22nd November 2024 at the Basketball Court of BVM Holy Cross College. The program was organized by the Sports & Health Club and held during the afternoon session.

The session was led by Trainer Alex Jimmy, with the participation of 51 students. The program included a variety of strategic games and interactive activities designed to enhance mental agility, decision-making skills, concentration, and teamwork among participants.

Overall, the session successfully highlighted the importance of cognitive fitness alongside physical strength, encouraging students to develop both mental sharpness and collaborative skills through engaging activities.

November 18 – Ignition Day: Awakening the Body and Mind

The training session titled “Ignition Day: Awakening the Body and Mind” was conducted on 18th November 2024 at the Basketball Court of BVM Holy Cross College. The program was organized by the Sports & Health Club as an afternoon training session aimed at improving physical fitness and mental readiness among students.

The session was led by Trainer Alex Jimmy, with the participation of 51 students. Various physical exercises and fitness activities were conducted to motivate students to develop strength, endurance, and discipline.

Overall, the training program successfully encouraged students to focus on physical wellness, teamwork, and mental preparedness, creating a positive start for future sports and training activities organized by the Sports & Health Club.

October 29 – MG UNIVERSITY SOUTH ZONE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2024

The South Zone Football Tournament organized by Mahatma Gandhi University was held on 29 October 2024 at Girideepam College. The tournament brought together several colleges from the South Zone, providing an excellent platform for students to demonstrate their football skills and sportsmanship.
Our college team participated in the tournament with 18 players, under the guidance of Team Coordinator and Coach Alex Jimmy. A total of 19 teams competed in the event, making the tournament highly competitive.
In the first match, our team faced NSS Hindu College. Despite putting in a determined effort and showing good teamwork throughout the match, our team was defeated with a score of 0–4.
Although the result was not in our favor, the tournament provided valuable exposure and competitive experience for our players. The participation helped the team improve their performance, coordination, and confidence for future competitions.

September 6- BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

On the 6th of September 2024, the sports and physical education department of BVM Holy Cross College organized a thrilling Badminton Tournament for students. This much-anticipated event, spanning from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, brought together enthusiastic participants, faculty, alumni, and supporters under one roof to celebrate sportsmanship, team spirit, and healthy competition. The tournament featured five exciting events: Mixed Doubles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Singles, and Women’s Singles. The tournament was coordinated by Mr. Alex Jimmy, a dedicated faculty member, with the invaluable support of the College Union students. Adding prestige to the event was the referee, Mr. Jeffin Varghese, an alumnus of BVM Holy Cross College and a professional badminton umpire. The honorable Rev. Dr. Baby Sebastian, Principal of BVM Holy Cross College, inaugurated the tournament in a grand and memorable ceremony.

The BLUELOCK Sevens Football Tournament, hosted on February 21, 2024, at the esteemed M C Varghese College Of Arts And Science in Ettumanoor, transcended the boundaries of a typical sporting event. October 4- ORUMA 2K23 BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

This was a unique event that was conducted, but for the students and faculty members, like teaching and non-teaching staff, stamina and dexterity are the crucial words associated with badminton, and that’s what our players displayed during the event. The match began with a lot of enthusiasm displayed not only by the players but also by the observers. Their relaxed and flexible grips, the shuttle breakouts, and their avoiding the faltering of the shuttle in flight kept us all awestruck. Badminton is quite a drill for the mind. The game requires constant thinking and planning, and that’s what we all witnessed while they played.
