Music Club

The Music Club is the fraternity of all the music lovers at BVM Holy Cross College. The Music Club aims to promote taste and talent amongst students by organising workshops and performances. The club conducts various activities throughout the year and has an existence in all the big and small events taking place at the college, since everything feels incomplete without a touch of music in it. An efficient music band is also functioning under the Music Club.

Objectives

  • Provide a platform to cultivate and exhibit talent.
  • Through mentorship, competitions, events, and weekly sessions, The Music Club provides a conducive environment to polish skills and for mutual learning.

October 22- Music Theory Class

The Music Theory class organised by Music Club on 22/10/2024.The session was held at St.Genesius Education Theatre Silver Jubilee Block. Twelve students joined the theory class session. A new student named Anusha Mary (S1 Bca) joined the class. Club coordinator Mr.Jacob Sam took the session in which he introduced stave and clef to the students. Members of the music club conducted a jamming session after the theory class. Music club provided pencils and erasers to all the members.

The Western vocal training class organised by Music Club started on 06/08/2024.The session was held at Room No.103, Silver Jubilee Block. Ten students joined the training session. A new student named Alex joined the club. The first session focused on breathing techniques, vocal range exercises and a new vocal exercise called Lip Trill was introduced to the students. Club coordinator Mr. Jacob Sam took the first
session. The session was designed to enhance the importance of proper breath control and expand the vocal range.

  1. Breathing Techniques
    Mr. Jacob Sam introduced the importance of breath control in singing. Proper breathing supports vocal strength and stability, making it crucial for effective singing.
  2. Vocal Range Exercises
    Students practiced ascending and descending scales to stretch their vocal range and improve agility. This exercise helps in smoothly transitioning between different vocal registers. Humming at different pitches helped them to focus on resonance and to control their voice in upper and lower vocal registers.
  3. Lip Trill
    Cub coordinator Mr. Jacob Sam introduced a new vocal exercise to the students. This exercise improve breath control, expand vocal range, reduce tension, and enhance resonance.
    Outcome
    Students will learn proper breathing, posture, and vocal placement to produce a clear, rich,
    and resonant sound.

The Western vocal training class organised by Music Club started on 23/07/2024.The session was held at Room No.103, Silver Jubilee Block. Eleven students joined the training session. The first session focused on breathing techniques and vocal range exercises and a comparative discussion on Western and Carnatic music styles. Club coordinator Mr. Jacob Sam took the first session. The session was designed to enhance the importance of proper breath control and expand the vocal range.

August 28- Release of Onam Song “ONACHELA”

The music club has released an Onam song, Onachela on 28 th August 2023. The song was composed and Sung by Mr. Jacob Sam, lyrics by Mr. Bilahari S and directed by Mr. Jithin TS. Teachers and students from various departments have acted in the video song.

June 21- Paattu 2023 – World Music Day Celebration.

The music club celebrated music day on 21 st June 2023. The program named “PATTU” was inaugurated by the Principal, Rev.Dr.Baby Sebastian Thonikkuzhy. The program was hosted by music club coordinator; Mr. Bilahari S. Music programs by the club members and a Music quiz competition for the students
were the highlights of PATTU. Students from various departments participated in the quiz competition. Harigovind R and Ajaykumar K A of second year BCA grabbed the first prize for the music quiz. Anand M K, student of Visual Communication sung a song composed by him and the music club members Shruthi Jayan,and Praisy Mariam Thomas.
